Lieutenant General Omar Hassan al-Bashir
President of the Republic of the Sudan
People's Palace
P. O. Box 281
Khartoum, Sudan

[Date]

Dear Mr. President:

I respectfully urge you to use your influence with the Lord's Resistance Army, combatants reportedly operating camps within Sudan and with support from the Government of Sudan, to release children abducted by these troops in Uganda. I am especially concerned about Charlotte Awino, who was abducted with some other 30 other girls from St. Mary's School in Aboke, Uganda. The girls are believed to have been taken to Sudan.

The abduction of Charlotte Awino, her classmates, and thousands of other children in Uganda during recent years is a severe violation of international human rights law. I request that you take all appropriate steps immediately to end such violations and to expedite the return of abducted children to their homes.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
